It is with a great sense of pride that I come to tell you of a book we founders are writing about The Phantom Manufacturing Company. Since re-establishing ourselves, and particularly since launching this auto-incandescent kiosk thingy, we have recieved numerous requests to explain ourselves. One could take such requests in a variety of way but we see the positive in this. So we have set about writing the first ever Phantom Story. And, it being about us, it is a grand story in the time-honoured tradition of the printed book.

You will be happy to know that portions of this book will become available first here on this site in a serialised format and then later as an ebook and a print-on-demand book so as to spare our lovely trees due to possible unforeseen wastage.

Phantom in the Press

We are proud to announce that an excellent story on The Phantom, writen by Robert Ross, has been published in the American magazine, The Robb Report. If you have not seen this magazine before we highly recommend that you do. Of course you should get the March 2010 issue to see the article on the Phantom. But a subscription would also be a good idea for any discerning gentleman. Have a browse and you will see why.

For those of you of the French persuasion you will pleased to know that Gary Inman's lovely article about The Phantom has now been immortalised itself -- ion French! The February/March 2010 issue of Cafe Racer Original has his four-page article with wonderful colour plates!

Introducing, The Phantom EG

We build the Phantom EG the way we have always built motorbikes -- by the hands of skilled artisans. Our lads specify or form every piece of the machine. Of course, no two clients are the exact same shape, or have the exact same taste. As a result, every Phantom is unique, 'commissioned' as would a piece of fine art. The EG was designed from the start as an homage to those amazing machines that spunky gentlemen (and ladies) used to set speed records at Brooklands and board track racer circuits back in the 1920s.

The Phantom EG is not for everyone. There are other motorbikes that are faster, and still others more comfortable. What sets the Phantom EG apart from all others, is the abundance of soul. The spirits of The Phantom's founders, along with those legendary riders of the day such as Harry and Charlie Collier, W. D. Chitty, Bert Le Vack, Jake De Rosier, Jack Emerson, "Barry" Baragwanath, Gwenda Stewart, and scores of others both famous and not, run through every part of a Phantom EG. All these riders may have passed into history, but their presence is felt every time you sit astride a Phantom EG.

I recently directed Mrs. Ramsbottom to a small tin of old photographs I had squirreled away in the works. In that tin she found this image. It instantly took me back to that amazing day in 1922. the photograph is a little bit contravercial as the photo was taken at a Brooklands session in 1922 when Gwenda was involved with Col. Stewart, director of the Trump Motorcycle Company.

the Phantom EG has also appeared in 100% Bikers in the UK, and Sideburn. Copies of these magazines can be found on their relevant website thingies. We are also happy to announce that we have launched a small shop through which we might offer for sale some Phantom merchandise in an effort to bolster Mrs. Ramsbottom's bingo fund. Do have a look and order some of our fine shirts for your loved ones -- supplies are limited...until we make some more of course.
