For Whom Is The Phantom?

I have been asked this question more than a couple of times since we released information about the Phantom EG. And a few punters have made some rather derogatory comments about the EG being for men with lots of money and no sense. Well, I suppose one could put all motorbikes in that category really.

A motorbike is a thing of leisure and excitement. It is a toy for gentlemen (and ladies) with a taste for such things. In the case of the EG it is a very specific type of person to whom it is best suited. I believe the most suited person is one who knows something of the pioneering days of motorsport and feels a certain sense of resonance with that era. they seek more of a time machine, than a simple road machine. They seek a device that will not only take them down a leafy lane on a Sunday afternoon, but also back to an age of excited exploration and experimentation. And age where everything seemed possible with a measured application of the disciplines of engineering.

In that era, no machine was perfect. As a result, each one had a character that was unique and changed over time. It was also accepted that such machines gave the rider a new perspective on things -- once you had experienced high velocity travel, the normal pace of things seemed so sedate that an appreciation of everyday details was intensified. And when you next returned to that world of speed, the sensation was ever more dramatic.

People these days are exposed to such speeds in such comfort at such an early age that the impact of of velocity is almost lost. It is as if you have become a different species to that of our generation. In some ways it is this change in human perception that lies at the heart of the namke of our new machine, the Phantom EG (Erasmus' Gamble). We are gambling that it is possible to recapture that thrill of the sensation of first speed, and be transported by it across both time and space.

Re: For Whom Is The Phantom?

Crikey! That must mean Mr. Wells was writing about us then in his famous book! No, oi've not read it, but oi 'ave 'eard about it. Having held onto the back of 'Frostie' when he took it out across the tarmacadam at Donington Park I can tell you this new EG is a proper beastie. I would say it is as much as beast as wos the FH, and that WAS a an animal of a machine! I think EG owners will need to budget for plenty of tyres.

Oh, and oi'm lookin' forward to Goodwood. I really fancy that daughter of Lord March! If only oi wos 80 years younger, an' still alive!

Re: For Whom Is The Phantom?

I have just read a quite fabulous article in that most esteemed journal of motorcycling and touring "Classic Bike".

The gentlemen at Phantom were kind enough to allow one of their journalist chaps a quick blast on the old Erasmus, and from what he said it seems a splendidly ripper way to spend an afternoon.  I only wish that father would up my allowance several fold and I could possibly revel in the delights of an early evening spent careering at dashed scary speeds around the lanes surrounding the big house.

Still, Crikey she's a beautiful filly. I'm sure even mia cara would be suitably impressed were I to scorch by on her too.  You never know It could be enough to turn her head.

Although it is doubtless vulgar crassness on my part to gamble away my small inheritence I think I may buy a few extra tickets in the lottery just in case I'm lucky enough to win enough lolly for a down payment.

That would be splendid...........
